On this date in 2004, the Boston Red Sox came all the way back from a 3-0 deficit to the NY Yankees in the ALCS to win their first pennant since 1986. They would go on to win their first World Championship in 86 years, “reversing the curse,” as the saying goes.
As you can imagine, this was an ideal situation for book lovers (Sox book lovers, at least). Several titles were published over the next several months and even years, including:
- Don’t Let Us Win Tonight: An Oral History of the 2004 Boston Red Sox’s Impossible Playoff Run, by Allan Wood and Bill Nowlin
- Faithful: Two Diehard Boston Red Sox Fans Chronicle the Historic 2004 Season, by Stuart O’Nan and Stephen King
- Curse Reversed: The 2004 Boston Red Sox, by The Sporting News
- Believe it! World Series Champion Boston Red Sox & Their Remarkable 2004 Season, by The Boston Globe
- Mind Game: How the Boston Red Sox Got Smart Won a World Series, and Created a New Blueprint for Winning, by Baseball Prospectus
