Two subjects that have long fascinated me: baseball and advertising.
I first encountered Roberta Newman several years back at one of those meetings that attracts baseball academics; I forget whether it was a Cooperstown Baseball Symposium or a SABR convention) where she delivered a paper on the connection between those topics. I still have a copy of it someplace among my souvenirs.
So I was especially pleased some time ago to learn that she would be publishing Here’s The Pitch: The Amazing, True, New, and Improved Story of Baseball and Advertising via the University of Nebraska Press (the same folks who brought you 501 Baseball Books Fans Must Read before They Die).
I’ve written before about baseball and players in TV advertising. But for some reason, this remains my favorite.
So now, without any further commercial interruption, here is my conversation with Roberta Newman.
