The Bookshelf Conversations: Bryan Hoch

August 31, 2021

Bryan Hoch and I go way back. He gave me one of my first writing breaks when I contributed to his Mets Online website which he set up while still in high school. He’s come a long way since, and I won’t chastise him for switching to the Yankees.

We met for in person for the first time in 2009 when we were both at Yankees fantasy camp on assignment from our respective news outlets.

In addition to covering the team for MLB.com, Hoch has published three books: The Baby Bombers: The Inside Story of the Next Yankees Dynasty, Mission 27: A New Boss, a New Ballpark, One Last Win for the Yankees’ Core Four, and his latest — and the topic of this Conversation — The Bronx Zoom: Inside the New York Yankees’ Most Bizarre Season.

As I told Hoch, and as readers of this site know, I usually roll my eyes when the titles of baseball books feature superlatives like best, greatest, or most, but it is quite fitting in this case. At least I hope there are no more bizarre seasons coming down the pike.

Here’s my review of The Bronx Zoom for Bookreporter.com.
