The Bookshelf Conversations: George Vecsey

March 30, 2021

The final Conversation in a series featuring contributors to 42 Today: Jackie Robinson and His Legacy.

George Vecsey, a former columnist for The New York Times, is one of the most venerated sportswriters of the last fifty years. His books include Baseball: A History of America’s Favorite Game, Stan Musial: An American Life, and The Baseball Life of Sandy Koufax.

He is probably the only contributor to 42 Today who actually saw the book’s subject play. His essay, “Jackie Robinson Ball” reminds us how the game has changed since then.

He’s still writing, not just about baseball but life in general and is perhaps even more entertaining. He’s also on Twitter; follow him at @georgevecsey.

(Vecsey’s is also the “oldest” Conversation on the site, dating back almost ten years. You can listen to it here and tell me how these things have evolved.)
