The Bookshelf Conversations: Jonathan Eig

March 24, 2021

Part two of the series featuring contributors to 42 Today: Jackie Robinson and His Legacy.

Jonathan Eig has built a notable writing career for his well-crafted biographies of iconic figures such as Luckiest Man: The Life and Death of Lou Gehrig and Opening Day: The Story of Jackie Robinson’s First Seasonnot to mention Ali: A Life. (Al Capone was a big baseball fan and supposedly pretty handy with a bat, too, but for the purposes of this post we’ll omit him.) Here’s the Conversation we had way back in 2014.

Eig’s latest work is his essay in 42 Today,  “Telling it the Right Way” which discusses, of all things, the greater meaning behind the number Robinson wore. I won’t spoil either the article or the Conversation, but I will admit it’s something many of us don’t consider when a player joins a team.
