Jon Leonoudakis and I go way back, relatively speaking. I’ve been a fan of his entertaining and varied film projects, beginning with Not Exactly Cooperstown, about the Baseball Reliquary, described on its home page as “a nonprofit, educational organization dedicated to fostering an appreciation of American art and culture through the context of baseball history and to exploring the national pastime’s unparalleled creative possibilities.”
Other baseball films in the award-winning filmmaker’s oeuvre include The Day the World Series Stopped and Hano! A Century in the Bleachers. There’s also a book: The Sweet Spot Presents Baseball Pioneers: True Stories of Guts and Glory As Told By Pioneering Men and Women of the Game that are based on his film series, The Sweet Spot.
At the heart of The Sweet Spot lies a groundbreaking documentary series that takes the pulse of the national pastime in the 21st century. Season one—ten episodes— directed by award-winning baseball documentarian Jon Leonoudakis, trumpets the story of the greatest game in the world, but more, it’s a reflection of America through the eyewitnesses and the participants of that great game.
