The Bookshelf Conversations: Adam Felber

September 15, 2020

As I mention in the conversation with comedian Adam Felber, one of the things I miss most about my previous job was the long commute which allowed me time to listen to lengthy podcasts. Chief among them was Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, the NPR news quiz show on which Felber was a regular panelist. That was my go-to every Monday (the show airs on Saturday mornings).

(Old picture, by the way. Here’s one of my favorite Felber bits on WWDTM)

My wife was listening to a recent episode and since there was a baseball reference in it, she mentioned it to me. That’s how I learned that Felber — one of the hardest working people in entertainment — has a new gig: he and fellow comic Chet Waterhouse do a simulcast of ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. Felber plays Tommy “The Ginch” Henderson, the ultimate journeyman player-cum-color commentator on the weekly program brought to you by Starburns Sports.

So on a whim I tracked down Felber (stalker much?) and to my great and pleasant surprise, he responded within minutes. This is the result.

P.S. WWDTM has had a surprisingly large number of baseball people on as guests for the segment they call “Not My Job,” including, among others, Ryan Dempster, Sean Doolittle, Ozzie Smith, and Keith Hernandez.

P.P.S. Here’s my favorite Adam Felber book.
