The Bookshelf Conversations: Devin Gordon

April 13, 2021

I’ve taken a lot of grief over the years for the fact that I’m a lifelong Mets fan. My first game was back in (mumble mumble) when they were still pretty stinko. I still remember going to a game with my day camp and having the bus break down on the way back to Brooklyn. Didn’t get home until well after dark with all the parents waiting for us.

But I digress….

Being a Mets fan, I’m guessing I’ve read 99 percent of the books published about the team and IMO, Devin Gordon’s So Many Ways to Lose: The Amazin’ True Story of the New York Mets―the Best Worst Team in Sports ranks in the top three. It’s funny, sad, and extremely frustrating as it reminds us of what could have been.

My only knock is So Many Ways doesn’t cover every season. As he says in the Conversation, Gordon originally had a lot more material which would have made it a longer book. Fine by me but I guess not for the publisher.

One of the rabbit holes I fell into was looking up videos for some of the people and events Gordon writes about. Here are just two (warning: the second has some NSFW content).

So without further ado, here’s the Bookshelf Conversation with Devin Gordon:

Dealing with how current realities have impinged authors’ ability to get out there for in-person appearances, Gordon has partnered up with the Pandemic Baseball Book Club. You can visit them here.
