A while back I did a review of Death by Data, which include a “requiem” for the old-fashioned baseball scout. I went looking for a very specific scene from The Stratton Story in which a bird-dog scout player by Frank “The Wizard” Morgan discovers the titular pitcher.
I failed in that search, but I did come across this little gem: a 1950 radio play based on the movie. This was pretty common in a time before television was a standard household appliance. Enjoy.

By the way, Jimmy Stewart, who played the title role in the award-winning 1949 flick, was the Kevin Costner (or Dennis Haysbert) of his day, appearing in multiple baseball movies: in addition to Stratton, he also played a former All-Star infielder for the St. Louis Cardinals in Strategic Air Command (1955). Another fun fact: Sam Wood, director of The Stratton Story, also had that job for The Pride of the Yankees.
And that Jimmy Stewart is not to confused with the Jimmy Stewart who played for the Cubs, White Sox, Reds, and Astros from 1963-73.
