♦  Ron Shelton’s The Church of Baseball: The Making of Bull Durham: Home Runs, Bad Calls, Crazy Fights, Big Swings, and a Hit is among USA Today’s “Best Books of 2022.” Here’s our Bookshelf Conversation with Shelton. Meanwhile, True: The Four Seasons of Jackie Robinson by Kostya Kennedy and The Grandest Stage: A History of the World Series by Tyler Kepner are listed in FirstThing.com’s “Books for Christmas.” Here’s our Conversation with Kennedy.

♦  A profile of Tony Hernandez, author of Always Turn Down the First Offer: Memoirs of a Sportscaster appears on the Whitefish (MT) Pilot website.

♦  In 1997, Thomas Dyja published Play for a Kingdom, about Union and Southern soldiers playing a baseball game during the Civil War. ♦  If you’re into anime, you might be interested in this from otakuusamagazine.com: “Based on the baseball manga by Mitsuru Adachi, the MIX anime takes us 30 years beyond the events of Adachi’s legendary Touch manga and follows stepbrothers Touma and Souichirou Tachibana as they attempt to take Meisei High School back to the Koshien tournament. The first season of the adaptation aired in Japan from April to September 2019, and now season two has officially been lined up for a Spring 2023 premiere.”
