♦   From Sports Collectors Daily:

Mickey Mantle:  A Life In Memorabilia acts as a museum tour through Mantle’s life.  It includes items from Lane’s extensive and valuable collection as well as stories from Mantle’s 18-year career.

“‘This book is as close as one can get to these artifacts without actually holding them,’ [author Steven] Lane says.”

♦   Please, no. Enough with the retooling of reboots. As per CBR.com, “Bad News Bears Gets a TV Reboot With a Female Lead.” If this is going to be on network TV, you know it’s going to be watered down. Even if it’s on premium cable, so what? It won’t have the impact of the original, which came out in 1976. Besides, didn’t they try to do the mom-coach/misfit-kids shtick in the (thankfully) short-lived 2013 series Back in the Game? Just changing a classic by putting a different gender/race in the main role doesn’t make the project worthwhile.

♦   Now a new HBO documentary on Willie Mays? That’s worthwhile.

♦   From Smithsonianmag.com, “A collection of artist baseball cards, ‘Artball,’ from the artist Don Celender, arrive in the collections just in time for the World Series.”
