Funny how things work out.
If MLB had not changed the venue of the All-Star Game from Atlanta, GA, to Denver, CO, for political reasons, we would not have this wonderful event sponsored by the Tattered Cover, a collection of independent book sellers in that latter city.
There are a number of programs, both virtual and in person, that will appeal to just about any fan, including but certainly not limited to:
- The Iron Horse, featuring authors such as Jonathan Eig, Alan Gaff, and Richard Sandomir on Lou Gehrig
- Turning Two, with father-and-son biograpers David and Andrew Maraniss, who published well-received titles on Roberto Clemente and Glenn Burke, respectively
- Telling Baseball People’s Stories, with Dave Jordan, Joan Ryan, Dan Epstein, and Mitchell Nathanson, who have written about players like Dave Parker, Mark Fydrich, Jim Bouton, among a host of others
- And many other exciting sessions. Here is the complete calendar. All events are free, though reservations are required.
Since this started yesterday, I urge you to get on the stick, see what’s out there, and sign up ASAP.
