I love finding baseball readings in “non-traditional” places. You can come across an article here and there in publications like The Atlantic or New York Magazine (have to get to that Roger Angell book by Joe Bonomo), but other places take a little digging. So a hat tip to my old Trader Joe’s buddy Shawn R. for sending this along.
This one ponders the question “What’s Really Behind Baseball’s Power Surge?” and comes from, well, Ponderwall (no, not Ponder-Ball, as in Moneyball, Powerball, or Astroball), a new on-line “magazine of science and culture,” as their masthead says. Some interesting ideas by the authors Brian J. Love, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Michael L. Burns, Clinical Lecturer of Anesthesiology, both from the University of Michigan.
You can find other baseball pieces under the general “sports” nav bar.
