Kiss me once and kiss me twice…

July 23, 2019

and kiss me once again, it’s been a long, long time.

I was going to say, “Kids, ask your grandparents,” but apparently it appears in several Marvel universe movies, including Endgame. Who knew? I’ll have to see it now. I wonder if this will kick off renewed interest in Big Band era music. I’ve always been a fan of tunes well before my time. Just curious.

But I digress…

Can’t believe it’s been over a month since I last posted. Did ya miss me? (Did you notice?) A cross between busy schedule and ennui contributed to the absence but now I’, back with a vengeance.

First order of business is to express regret that I couldn’t attend the SABR convention in San Diego. A bit too far and costly for me these days. But, God willing, see you in Baltimore next year.

Latest project was one of those “round-up reviews” for Bookreporter, which should be up later this week. Sneak peak: The titles include

  • Full Count: The Education of a Pitcher, by David Cone with Jack Curry
  • Here’s The Catch: A Memoir of the Miracle Mets and More, by Ron Swoboda, seemingly without the help of a co-writer
  • Chumps to Champs: How the Worst Teams in Yankees History Led to the ’90s Dynasty, by Bill Pennington
  • Unwritten: Bat Flips, The Fun Police, and Baseball’s New Future, by Danny Knobler
  • Let’s Play Two: The Legend of Mr. Cub — The Life of Ernie Banks, by Ron Rapoport (not to be confused with Doug Wison’s Let’s Play Two: The Life and Times of Ernie Banks.)

Trying to get back to the Bookshelf Conversations, now that I’ve finally figured out the iTunes subscription thing. The older ones aren’t actually there, but going forward the new ones should be. If not, you can always listen to them here on the blog. You can tell I’m not the most technically attuned person. Been having some difficulties that need to be totally fixed before I impose on the time of the fine folks I’d like to interview.

I’ve also updated the links section of the sidebar, deleting those dead sites. Check out that section; there’s a lot of fun stuff in there.

Been in touch with the University of Nebraska Press regarding an update of 501 Baseball Books Fans Must Read before They Die. There have been a number of new titles out since it was published in 2013 that deserve a spot. If this does happen, those will probably be included in an addendum, rather than going in and excising the books they would replace, so I guess that 501 would need to be changed. If you’re interested in seeing a new edition, I would encourage you to contact UNP (pressmail@unl.edu). Thanks!

So stay tuned for further news, reviews, previews, and interviews about your favorite pastime.

À bientot.
