The Baseball Heritage Museum has a pair of events scheduled:
Throw Like a Woman
Author Susan Petrone will give a presentation 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9. Petrone wrote the 2015 novel Throw Like a Woman, about a woman who, at age 40, finds her life taking an unexpected turn when she becomes a Major League pitcher.
Petrone, who has written three books, is a co-founder of itspronouncedlajaway.com, an eight-year-old site focusing on the Cleveland Indians. “Throw Like a Woman” is her only baseball book.
“I like to tell people it’s partly about baseball and partly about anger,” she said. “It’s about a single mom who discovers she can throw a 95-mile-an-hour fastball when she thinks about her ex-husband.”
Petrone will talk about the book’s origins, women in baseball, the writing process, read, and answer questions.
It’s perfect timing for Women’s History Month.
“Part of my talk does touch on the history of women in baseball,” she said. “For some reason people think it’s an anomaly when they see a woman playing baseball or read about it.”

Addie Joss: Revealed
The museum will screen Addie Joss: Revealed, a documentary about the Cleveland pitching great who died in 1911.
Cleveland Indians play-by-play announcer Matt Underwood produced, wrote and narrated the documentary, which came out in 2017. He will speak and answer questions.
The program is 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10.
The 30-minute documentary covers Joss’ career and tragic life. He is one of two Cleveland pitchers to throw a perfect game (Len Barker in 1981 is the other).
The event is a spring fundraiser for the museum. Tickets are $35 at the door if available ($25 for members, free for kids 13 and under). Go online to buy tickets or call 216-789-1083.
