Either I’m more sensitive to it or it’s just my imagination (running away with me).
There have been, of late, a common theme in baseball novels, especially self-published: substance abuse, whether alcohol or PED. Just this year we have:
- High and Inside
, by Russell Rowland
- Catching Lightning Without the Bottle
, by Timothy F. Bouvine
- Nine Bucks a Pound
, by James Bailey
Looking for additional titles, plugged in “baseball fiction” in the Amazon search box. They really have to work on their qualifiers. In this day and age,I can’t believe there can’t be some component to tailor searches better. It would be greatly appreciated if I could eliminate anything meant for readers under, say middle school age.
I’ve also noticed an alarming amount of what I can only describe as “baseball porn.” More on that in a separate entry, but I wonder if other sports feature this specialized brand of writing?
