What I’m doing on my summer vacation

What vacation?

Work, work work.

That’s why my entries have been tailing off of late. With three months left til the due date, I have almost 100 of the 501 titles I need for the University of Nebraska Press project.

As Regis says, “I’m only one man!”

Anyway, I will try to post as often as possible, but I know the summer is slack time for you readers out there, too.

All this is an aside, actually. Spent yesterday afternoon at a book launch for former Yankee Bernie Williams’ new release, Rhythms of the Game: The Link Between Musical and Athletic Performance, written with Dave Gluck and Bob Thompson, musicians and faculty members in the music department at SUNY Purchase. (Thompson collaborated on the very excellent 2008 title, Baseball’s Greatest Hit: The Story of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” BK/CD with Tim Wilies of the baseball Hall of Fame and Andy Strasberg, perhaps the biggest collector of TMOTTBG memorabilia.)

I’ll be posting my interviews with Williams and Thompson as a podcast over the weekend.

It was a nice little gathering, held after the Yankees-Brewers game at the Stadium. This is Williams’ first book and he’s quite excited and happy to talk about his love for music.

Also in attendance were Marty Appel, former PR director for the Yankees and prolific author; Wes Seeley, who worked on the Total Baseball books with John Thorn et al; and Suzyn Waldman, a broadcaster for the team.

Also at the gig was my daughter, Rachel, who took the photos. That was a nice collaboration, too.

FYI, Williams, Thompson and Gluck will be making a stop at the newly renovated Yogi Berra Museum and learning Center on Thursday, Aug. 4 at 6 p.m.  I would suggesting RSVP’ing soon (973-655-2378), because I have a feeling this one will be sold out.
