Besides playing Irene Lorenzo, Archie Bunker’s liberal neighbor on All in the Family, as well as other TV, film, and theater roles, Garrett starred in the 1949 Sinatra-Kelly musical Take Me Out to the Ballgame.

Garrett died yesterday at the age of 91.

From Danny Peary via Facebook:

I got to know Betty Garrett in 1977 when she wrote about her husband Larry Parks for my first published movie book, Close-Ups. She used to do a one-woman show back then and came to New York. She sure was talented, had an amazing career, was very smart about such things as the Hollywood blacklist, and was a really nice person. I hadn’t had contact with her in a long time and have no idea how she was in her nineties when she died. I picture her young with dancing feet and vitality.
