Literary birthday greetings: John Kruk

February 9, 2011 · 1 comment

The poster boy for the unathletic-looking male, the one who gave millions hope that they, too, could fit in with the slim/muscular types, turns 50 today.

Kruk was one of those players who was pretty good, but… He finished his 10-year career with an even .300 batting average and hit .348 in the 1993 World Series. He took advantage of his celebrity to publish “I Ain’t an Athlete, Lady…” the following year.

For all his accomplishments, Kruk will most likely be remembered for his All-Star at bat against Randy Johnson.

I am so glad to see this video make it onto YouTube. I remember watching this game and thinking this is one of the great moments in sports that I can brag about seeing it when it happened. Thanks for posting a great video and a classic moment for the ages!
