* Whatever you do, don’t smile

That seems to be theme in most of these Daily News “baseball cards” shots of the Mets and Yankees.

This one one of the more popular poses when I was at fantasy camp.

How bad can it be when you have to hold up a sign along with the ID on the card?

They must have been in too big a rush to position Manuel to avoid the glare.

Sorry, but that double chin pose isn't very slimming.

In another marketing ploy, the Daily News will be publishing its baseball preview on Thursday, rather than the usual Sunday before Opening Day. I’m guessing they realize people buy the Sunday paper regardless of content, but Thursday is a down day.

Given the situation in the newspaper industry these days, I don’t have high hopes for the traditional OD previews that normally appear at this point. The local paper usually found a way to highlight a certain player or anniversary or issue. The Washington Post used to put out some really nice stuff. But alas, those days are gone. Maybe the web versions will carry something nice and featurey.
