It’s been way to long since a “serious” biography about Willie Mays was published. That’s about to be remedied with Willie Mays: The Life, The Legend by James S. Hirsch, to be published this month by Scribner.

Bruce Weber, author of As They See’ Em, wrote this piece for the Sunday Times.

Perhaps it’s because he’s getting older that Mays, who had been reluctant about such a project, finally gave in. I’m hoping that Sandy Koufax follows suit soon.

Welcome back, Willie, it’s been too long.
