Happy Valentine’s Day

Bobby Valentine — How has this guy not written a book yet? Between his time as manager for the Texas Rangers and New York Mets after a promising but ultimately injury-aborted playing career, plus his time in Japan, you’d think someone would have published one. There was a cool documentary — The Zen of Bobby V — that made the film festival circuit in 2008, but that’s pretty much it. And how is this not commercially available on DVD yet?

Ellis Valentine was a member of a powerful Montreal Expos outfield in the early 1980s that included Tim Raines and Andre Dawson. Unfortunately, they never achieved the collective stardom predicted. Ellis had one of the strongest arms in the game as well, but injuries took their toll and he was finished in the majors by age 30.

Other Valentines include Joe (Reds), Corky (Reds), Fred (Orioles/Senators), John (Columbus, 19th century), and another Bob (NY, 19th century).
