Owen Wilson plays Matty, a pitcher on the Washington Nationals, and Reese Witherspoon a former Olympic softball player in How Do You Know?, which opens in theaters today.

I have no intention of seeing this one, but the trailer does include a scene (about the 1:24 mark) with Wilson in the bullpen, waxing philosophical about love. As can be expected, there’s usually a well-meaning but goofy character willing to straighten out the hero. In this case, that he’s played by Domenick Lombardozzi (Detective “Herc” Hauk in The Wire). Let’s just say it’s not quite the classic “What do we get for Millie and Jimmy for a wedding gift?” scene from Bull Durham.

But guess who’s listed in the credits as a bullpen coach?

Try Jim Bouton! He’s become part of the “establishment,” at least on film. Ha. Wonder if he tells the pitchers, “Let’s go pound some Buds!”
