The Baseball Reliquary will host a special program to mark the auspicious occasion at the Burbank Public Library on Sept. 18.

Jim Bouton was kind enough to spend some time talking about his watershed contribution to American pop culture and his other literary projects with The Bookshelf.

Among other things, Bouton discussed how the idea for Ball Four originated; his collaboration with the late Leonard Shecter, who died just four years after the book was published; and why the classic — included in the New York Public Library’s list of the 100 most important books of the 20th century — is not the work of which he’s most proud.
