One of my “comfort” TV shows has been M*A*S*H*, which ran eight years long than the Korean War it was supposed to cover.
Season eight, episode 23, titled “War Co-Respondent” was written by Mike Farrell, who played B.J. Honeycutt, Hawkeye’s colleague and best friend.
There were a few episodes of the series that included baseball as a theme (Corporal Max Kilnger frequently wore the mufti of the Toledo Mudhens but I’m not sure how historically accurate it was; it seemed more in line with the Texas Rangers.)
I chose this example simply because it was on recently. BJ is chatting with Aggie O’Shea, a war correspondent traveling with a group of soldiers. They are sitting in the officers’ club having a drink as Aggie, played by Susan Saint James, tells him about her career, which covered several news beats.
I posted a lengthy piece back in 2020, which you can read here.
