Baseball-Reference offers this list of players and managers who were born in Ireland.
Back in the day — and I’m talking about the late 19th century — the New York Giants were famous for their collection of personnel of Irish descent, including manager John McGraw and players like Roger Bresnahan, Roger Connor, Tim Keefe, “Turkey Mike” Donlin, “Orator” Jim O’Rourke, and Jack Doyle, among others. Here’s a piece about “The Irish Giants” from the December/January 2013 issue of Irish America magazine
Books specifically about the Irish and baseball include
- The Irish in Baseball: An Early History, by David Fleitz
- Ed Delahanty in the Emerald Age of Baseball, by Jerrold Casway
Here’s an article by Tim Sheridan on the Boys of Spring website titled, “An Irish Baseball Story” from St. Patrick’s day in 2021.
And, last but not least, “The Best Irish Ballplayers of All Time,” by Kyle Sammin on The Hardball Times from 2017.
