October 24, 2025

With the Fall Classic set to begin tonight, here’s an interesting piece from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation on “15 books about baseball to celebrate the Blue Jays in the World Series.” To be clear, these are not all about the Jays, but I have to admit I had never heard of most of these titles, probably because they’re from Canadian authors and several have to do with either poetry or books for younger readers. Still worthy of a look.

Former Major League player and manager Clint Hurdle will be at the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum at the Heinz History Center to  launch his book, Hurdle-isms: Wit and Wisdom from a Lifetime in Baseball from 2-3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26.

I’m always tickled when I find a sports-related story in a traditional non-sports outlet. In this case it’s “What It’s Like to Be…a Baseball Player?” from Behavioral Scientist. And from the ABA Journal, “Hitting the Books: Law school can be taught with just baseball cases, retired judge says.”   (Also from the ABA Journal, this article: “Associate general counsel is fired after ‘call ICE’ taunt at baseball game goes viral.”)

The Anna Maria Sun published this article on Pasquale (Pat) Carlucci, author of A Baseball Birthright: Chronicles & Connections and Baseball in Paradise: A Century of Spring Training in Bradenton.

The Week, on of my favorite magazines, featured this review of Jane Leavy‘s newest, Make Me Commissioner.

The Guardian posted this piece — “The forgotten story of the US soldiers who integrated baseball before Jackie Robinson” — on its website.
