Let the winter reading lists begin

November 29, 2023

Whether it’s gift suggestions or just something to pass the time until spring training begins, you can count on “they’re making a list.” Whether the authors are checking them twice is a questionable matter. This one, by Nick Pollack on Pitcher List, offers “8 Baseball Books to Read During the Offseason.”

But I have to ask: If, as he writes, “Keep in mind that I wasn’t wild about all of them…,” then why recommend those specific titles? Surely he could have come up with eight books he really did like. (Probably, and “Don’t call me Shirley.” I mean, I certainly disagree with some of those included (it’s no secret, my disdain for The Art of Fielding) but as the title clearly states, the are just “books to read,” pretty general when it comes to suggestions, so have at it.
