September 18, 2023

♦   It’s been a very long time since I wrote about the Baseball Project, “a supergroup that includes several former members of R.E.M. and makes music exclusively about the sport,” according to this new article from The New Yorker.

♦   Hot on the heels of the new Netflx documentary The Saint of Second Chances this piece from NewCity.Com on the Veeck family.

♦   NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour, one of my favorite podcasts, always concludes with the hosts talking about “What’s Making Us Happy.” In this episode, Linda Holmes picked Joe Posnanski’s latest, Why We Love Baseball: A History in 50 Moments which is among this week’s bestsellers, according to Publisher’s Weekly, which calls the book a “rousing celebration.”

♦  The “Legend of 21,” a new exhibit highlighting Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente, recently opened at the Paley Center for Media in Midtown Manhattan. It runs through October 29.

♦   As you might recall, I have a bunch of Google alerts which inform me about new baseball books, movies, etc. Needles to say the term “record books” pops up frequently. So frequently, in fact, I look forward to a book or article about the number of new records set in 2023. Just sayin’.
