Nothing succeeds like Succession (Bill Wambsganss)

Succession (TV Series 2018–2023) - IMDbSPOILER ALERT

Succession is one of the best — and annoying — TV shows around. Generally, I don’t like shows that glorify the ultra-rich. And I wonder how this is considered a “dramedy,” even though there are some very funny lines in it.

My daughter, Rachel, found this Tik-Tok piece from Nameberry.com that theorizes about the meaning behind the name of Tom Wambsgans, the husband of Shiv Roy, daughter of the late scion, Logan Roy. To hear the Tik-Toker tell the tale, the writers named that character deliberately with Bill Wambsganss in mind. The Cleveland Indians infielder is the only player in MLB history to pull off an unassisted triple play in the World Series. (And yes, the spelling is a tad off.)

According to Wikipedia, “In game five of the 1920 World Series [against the Brooklyn Robins, as they were known at the time] played at League Park [in Cleveland], Wambsganss caught a fifth-inning line drive batted by Clarence Mitchell, stepped on second base to retire Pete Kilduff, and tagged Otto Miller coming from first base, to complete the … play….”

Back to Tic-Tok: “He took out three players at once in what is essentially the finale of baseball. It’s no coincidence that Tom shares a surname with Bill Wambsganss so you have to wonder if Tom will complete an unassisted triple play and take out all 3 of the Roy siblings to become the leader of Waystar Royco in the Succession finale.”

Stay tuned.
