Wondering how the new rule changes will change the rule book itself. This article from MLB.com makes them seem more complicated than I originally thought.
These include:
- The pitch clock, which not only applies to the pitcher apparently, but the hitter as well who has to be in the batter’s box within a certain time frame.
- The defensive shift, which dictates where and how deep infielders can stand. Outfielders are not impacted.
- Larger bases. This one is pretty straightforward.
I wonder how the umpires who will have to enforce these things feel about the additional responsibilities? Or will there be a new “timekeeper” position?
UPDATE: MLB Network to air special on 2023 rule changes tonight (Feb, 16) at 7 ET
