December 28, 2022

Tyler Kepner was a recent guest on WYSO radio to discuss his book, The Grandest Stage: A History of the World Series.

Speaking of Kepner, he published this baseball quiz in The New York Times this past weekend.

The Bradenton Times posted this piece about Playing Through The Pain – Ken Caminiti and the Steroids Confession That Changed Baseball Forever. But my question is, has it really changed baseball (and we won’t rehash how I feel about words such as “forever” in a book’s title)? Players are still using PED, still getting suspended. And that’s only the ones we know about.

The Baseball 100 was among the books included in Lithub.com’s “23 Great Books to Give As Gifts, According to Booksellers.”

It’s debatable: MLB.com posted this list of “Best baseball players born every year,” dating back to 1847! It’s kind of fun to see who didn’t make the cut. For example, 1931 was a red-letter year: Willie Mays gets the nod over the likes of Mickey Mantle, Eddie Mathews, Ernie Banks, Jim Bunning, and Ken Boyer.
