A “new” Costner baseball film unearthed

In looking up For Love of the Game on IMDB, I found yet another baseball film in which Kevin Costner appeared of which I was totally unaware: Chasing Dreams, a 1989 release that garnered just a 3.2 rating on that site. After viewing the trailer, I understood why and wonder if it deserved to be even that high. (By comparison For Love received a 6.6 rating.)

Costner — the only recognizable name (to me at least) — appears prominently in the movie poster but appears way down in the cast list. Talk about suspending disbelief: Anyone who is a baseball fan will find it  to think Gavin (played by David G. Brown, who also has a writing credit) shows any discernible skills that would warrant attention form pro scouts, challenging William Bendix in The Babe Ruth Story (5.2 rating) and Anthony Perkins in Fear Strikes Out  (6.9) for worst athletic skills by a lead performer. But at least those were “major motion pictures.”

IMDB dates the film as 1989, but other sources put it at 1982.
