Book Riot Logo♦  Now hear this: Stealing Home: Los Angeles, The Dodgers, and the Lives Caught in Between by Eric Nusbaum and Baseball’s Leading Lady: Effa Manley and the Rise and Fall of the Negro Leagues by Andrea Williams are the subjects of this “All the Backlist” podcast from Bookriot.com. From NPR’s Fresh Air (10/27), “Phillies Radio Announcer On The World Series & Changes In Baseball.” Finally, from NPR station WSIU in Carbondale, Illinois, here’s an installment of “Reading Baseball” by Richard “Pete” Peterson, author of Growing Up With Clemente and the editor of The St. Louis Baseball Reader.

♦  Of course, you didn’t expect Joe Maddon‘s book to go without comment from the Angels. From Sports Illustrated, “GM Perry Minasian Responds to Claims from Joe Maddon’s Tell-All Book.”

♦  In the “Just Saying” department: Wouldn’t you think there would be a book by or about Dusty Baker by now? After all, in addition to a strong 19-year playing career, he is a three-time Manager of the Year over 25 seasons as skipper of the Giants, Cubs, Reds, Nationals, and Astros finishing in first or second place 16 times. His 2,093 wins ranks ninth all-time; everyone else in the top twn is in the Hall of Fame. Although there’s nothing listed for upcoming titles on Amazon for the next year, I wouldn’t be surprised if something pops up soon.
