Lest we forget: Icons Lost

The MLB Network has put together a bittersweet tribute to six Hall of Famers we lost this year. Highly recommended. (Phil Niekro’s passing must have been too recent to be included.)

I know I should be surprised, but I was still shocked to see how much Tim McCarver has aged. Less so for Johnny Bench, Willie Horton, and Joe Torre. But it was a nice selection of guests since they had so many connections with each of the legends featured. Degrees of separation: McCarver and Torre played with Lou Brock and Bob Gibson. Torre managed and Bench played with Seaver; Bench also played with Morgan. Torre was with the Yankees where Whitey Ford was still part of the “family.” Horton played with Kaline and against Gibson (in the 1968 World Series).
