Lest we forget: Charley Pride

December 15, 2020

Charley Pride, singer and Texas Rangers part-owner, has died of COVID-19 complications - Lone Star Ball

The legendary country singer died last Saturday at the age of 86 from complications of Covid after attending the CMA Awards in Nashville. Here’s the obituary from The New York Times.

Pride had legitimate baseball roots, pitching professionally in the Negro Leagues. He was also a part owner of the Texas Rangers for a time. A much better pedigree than other celebrities who loved to put on a uniform and hang around with teams, such as Garth Brooks.

He was one of the celebrities who loved to don the uniform, take batting practice, hang out on the field…just be around the game. But unlike many others, he had actual cred.

Black History Month: Charley Pride
