6 SEARCH STRATEGIES - Library - Information Literacy Module - LibGuides at University of Johannesburg

Apropos of my recent complaint about Amazon’s search boondoggle, FB friend Jim Meier sent along this helpful hint:

I saw your blog post about searching for baseball books published in 2020 and your frustrations with Amazon.  I share your pain about getting more precise search results.

You may have already found a solution to your current problem, but I would suggest trying an advanced search of WorldCat.  I put in “baseball” as a subject, “book” as the format, and limited the publication date to 2020.  Came up with 387 titles.  Of course, I can’t be sure if that’s everything, but I am sure there are fewer false positives than with Amazon.

WorldCat, by the way, “is the world’s largest network of library content and services,” according to the site.

You can also do a “future search,” as I do for the “Coming down the pike” posts, as well as eliminating juvenile literature, which is not a consideration on the Bookshelf.
