The two-time All-Star, who spent 14 of his 19 big league seasons with the Houston Astros before becoming the general manager of the team in 1993, died yesterday at the age of 74.
Watson also played for the Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees, and Atlanta Braves.

This AP obituary appeared in today’s New York Times, but given his connection as GM of the Yankees from 1995-97 — winning the World Championship in 1996 — I’m guessing there will be something more “personal” very soon.
In the meantime, here’s what the New York Daily News and New York Post posted.
Watson published Survive to Win, written with Russ Pate, in 1997.
