Lest we forget: Rob Edelman

Image result for rob edelmanI didn’t want to post these yesterday, given that Memorial Day should have a lock on “lest we forget,” at least on May 31st.

I was saddened by the news that Rob Edelman, 70, passed away last week. He combined two of my favorite things — the national pastime and cinema — in one of my favorite books, Great Baseball Films: From Right Off the Bat to a League of Their Own.

According to this item on the SABR website, Edelman “was the editor of SABR’s From Spring Training to Screen Test: Baseball Players Turned Actors in 2018…. With his wife, Audrey Kupferberg, he coauthored Meet the Mertzes, a double biography of Vivian Vance and super-baseball fan William Frawley, and Matthau: A Life. For many years, he broadcast weekly film commentaries on WAMC Northeast Public Radio and taught Film Studies courses at the University at Albany.”

WAMC posted this tribute to Edelman as well.
