Lest we forget: Doris Day

May 14, 2019

The legendary actor/singer passed away yesterday at the age of 97.

Baseball connections? She played Aimee Alexander, wife to the Hall of Fame pitcher, Grover Cleveland (played by Ronald Reagan), in the 1951 biopic, The Winning Team.

Then there was this classic scene in the 1962 classic, That Touch of Mink

Here’s a behind-the-scenes clip of Day with co-star Cary Grant with members of the Yankees and Los Angeles Angeles (the old team, not the new iteration).

Fortunately, Mantle, Maris, and Berra did not quit their day jobs. And don’t you just love the stentorian tones of the announcer in TWS? And what’s that line, “Warm up as long as you like”??

Note how many “Real-life” players appeared in this one.
