Congrats to Rob Neyer, who was recently named winner of the 2018 Casey Award as handed out by Spitfall Magazine for his long-awaited (by me at least) new book Power Ball: Anatomy of a Modern Baseball Game
.
Those of you who have been following this blog for a while know how much respect I have for Neyer’s work, especially Rob Neyer’s Big Book of Baseball Legends: The Truth, the Lies, and Everything Else. Here’s my Bookshelf Review for that one, posted all the way back in 2008. Amazing that I never had him on for a Bookshelf Conversation, a situation I will remedy shortly.
Neyer wrote for ESPN from 1996-2011 and has also been National Baseball Editor for SB Nation, a baseball writer for Fox Sports, and a researcher for Bill James. He currently serves as Commissioner of the West Coast League, the premier collegiate summer baseball league west of the Mississippi River.
He will receive his prize — a specially engraved Louisville Slugger Bat — at the 36th Annual CASEY Awards Banquet on Sunday, March 3, at Crosley’s Sports Bar & Eatery in St. Bernard, Ohio. Tickets will be sold at the door for $10 and includes a subscription to Spitball for 2019.
