The award honors “a baseball writer (or writers) “‘or meritorious contributions to baseball writing,'” according to the Baseball Hall of Fame website.

Stark, who now writes for The Athletic after a long career with ESPN.com, will be receive the award during the Hall of Fame inductions in Cooperstown next July.

I interviewed Stark back in 2014 when he published Wild Pitches: Rumblings, Grumblings, and Reflections on the Game I Love. Here it is again so you don’t have to go looking for it. You’re welcome.

And here’s a list of previous recipients. By the way, I also had the honor of interviewing Claire Smith, last year’s honoree, during the SABR Convention in New York City.
