♦ The Minnesota Spokesman Record, an African-America newspaper, posted this review of They Played for the Love of the Game: Untold Stories of Black Baseball in Minnesota, published by Frank M. White.
♦ The Lincoln (NE) Journal Star provided this piece on Roger Angell‘s memoir, This Old Man: All in Pieces. I still maintain this is not a baseball book, per se, but given Angell’s history…
♦ Dan “Wolfman” Epstein was a guest on the Weekend Indiana radio show where he discussed, among other things, his book, Stars and Strikes: Baseball and America in the Bicentennial Summer of ’76, which sort of celebrates an anniversary of sorts given its subject matter.
♦ The Tampa Bay Tribune did another of its analyses of baseball cards.
♦ The Fairfax County Times published this profile on David E. Hubler, co-author with Joshua H. Drazen of The Nats and the Grays: How Baseball in the Nation’s Capital Survived WWII and Changed the Game Forever. (Ugh there’s that pet peeve word again: “Forever.”)
♦ The Concord (NC) Independent Tribune published a review of Road-Tripping the South Atlantic League: A Guide to the Teams, Ballparks and Cities, by Walter Triebel and published by the Jefferson-based McFarland. As an author, I would be a bit miffed if my name didn’t appear until the seventh paragraph. Just sayin’.
♦ Like me, The Hardball Times doesn’t always get to a baseball movie was soon as it comes out. So here’s their “Retroactive Review” of Sugar.
