Finally! I get to go to one of these things.
Although I live in Jersey, I dislike NYC to the point that I avoid it as much as possible (much to my wife’s annoyance). I was there yesterday to participate in a Jewish Book Council “author pitch” event for my forthcoming non-baseball sports title followed by a quick visit to Book Expo America at the Javits Center where I spent a few minutes with the good folks from Triumph Books. (It was somewhat distressing to learn that their hockey and football books outsell their baseball titles).
On Sunday, since I’m going back to be interviewed for Jon Leonoudakis’s documentary on legendary sportswriter Arnold Hano, I thought I would take advantage of the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone (don’t call PETA) and attend my first Gelf Varsity Letters author program, featuring Charles Leerhsen (Ty Cobb: A Terrible Beauty) and Jon Pessah (The Game: Inside the Secret World of Major League Baseball’s Power Brokers
).
