Looking over the overlooked in baseball book (etc.) news…

Wow, so much for the free exchange of ideas. Tried to access three items about baseball author appearances, book news, etc. but was blocked from each one because I’m not a paid subscriber. Bummer, man.

Anyway…

Photo: Ah, the life...The Boston Globe ran this review of I Don’t Care if We Never Get Back, a project by Ben Blatt and Eric Brewster, which is turning into one of the hot titles of the summer (and which I am currently reading).

Also from the Globe, Bill Nowlin, author of several baseball books, including 521: The Story of Ted Williams’ Home Runs, contributed  this review of Claudia Williams‘ memoir about her father, Ted (which I just finished).

How long do you think it will be before Harry Caray‘s drinking diary hits the bookshelves?

The Bethlehem Morning Call ran this profile of Joel Nathan Rosen, a professor at Moravian College, and co-author of Black Baseball, Black Business.

Book CoverAuthor Joe Niese reads from his latest book, Burleigh Grimes: Last of the Legal Spitballer at the River Falls Public Library, River Falls, WI, on Thursday, June 12, at 6:30 p.m. He will cover Grimes’ career, show tons of slides, and have Grimes’ personal scrapbook available for viewing. Niese will also have his own book available for sale and signing.” I’ll also be discussing my current project on Andy Pafko. For more info, contact 715-425-0905 or 715-426-2582 or visit the library’s web site.

Bill Madden, who co-authored two books by Don Zimmer, was a guest on John Feinstein’s radio program last week to talk about the late baseball lifer. Madden’s latest offering is a recap of a watershed season in 1954: The Year Willie Mays and the First Generation of Black Superstars Changed Major League Baseball Forever.

Speaking of radio, Robert K. Fitts was on Boise State Public Radio to discuss his 2012 award-winning title, Banzai Babe Ruth: Baseball, Espionage, and Assassination during the 1934 Tour of Japan.

Liberty Voice ran this review of Bill Denehy‘s memoir, Rage. And the Mansfield News Journal posted this on The Chalmers Race by Rick Huhn about the 1910 batting title “scandal” between Ty Cobb and Napoleon LaJoie.
