The women’s game

March 11, 2014

A few items of interest regarding women and baseball:

  • Caryn Rose will celebrate the release of her novel “A Whole New Ballgame” with an all-female talk on all things baseball at Word bookstore in Brooklyn on March 12. Author Joan Walsh (S”), and bloggers Taryn Cooper (A Gal for All Seasons), Amanda Rykoff (Awful Announcing), and Diane Firstman (Value Over Replacement Grit) will join Rose in a discussion titled “You Sure Know A Lot About Baseball For A Girl.” For information call (718) 383–0096.
  • Joel Silverman is working on a film adaptation of Susan Fornoff’s memoir Lady in the Locker Room about her battle in the 1980s to gain access to baseball clubhouses. Sports media blogger Ed Sherman asks, “Who will play Dave Kingman?”
  • Barbara Gregorich will be the featured speaker at the Des Plaines History Center Sunday, March 30, from 3-4 p.m. to discuss women in honor of Women’s History Month and the beginning of baseball season. A $3 donation is suggested for this event. For information, call 847-391-5399.
