Some vacation.
Actually it was no vacation at all. This is the first time since Aug. 1 I’ve been upright, pain-free, and clear-headed enough to post.
Following my 11-seconds of fame as one of the first-pitch-throwers at a Trenton Thunder game, I’ve been suffering with a respiratory infection that had me feverish, coughing, and otherwise unable to concentrate on anything more involved that watching TV.
Here’s the clip, taken by my daughter Rachel. Don’t blink; you’ll miss it.
So that explains my absence. I did manager to get a bit of reading done over the last couple of days, including Branch Rickey’s under-praised The American Diamond: A Documentary of the Game of Baseball, published in 1965, and a 1964 bio on Sandy Koufax by Arnold Hano. Finally, there was Larry LaRue‘s engaging collection of anecdotes, Major League Encounters. Look for review of these titles, as well as a podcast interview with LaRue in the near future.
(Incidentally, the title for this post was taken from an old TV show.)
