♦ I don’t usually look at e-books if they haven’t been published on paper as well, but David H. Martinez (The Book of Baseball Literacy: 3rd Edition: Nearly 700 People, Places, Events, Teams, Stats, and Stories – Everything You Need to Know in One Massive Book) has enough of a track record for me to be a big spender, based on James Bailey’s review of his new release, Baseball Detective: Unraveling the Mystery of the Batting Order
.
♦ The San Fernando Valley Sun published this about High Fives, Pennant Drives, and Fernandomania: A Fan’s History of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Glory Years (1977-1981), by Paul Haddad. Upshot: “Dodgers’ lovers will say Haddad has hit one out of the park. Others may see it as a line drive back up the middle. Either way, “High Fives, Pennant Drives, And Fernandomania” is a hit.”
♦ The “Pop Candy” section of the USA Today website posted this on Molly Lawless’ Hit by Pitch: Ray Chapman, Carl Mays and the Fatal Fastball
. Upshot: “Hit By Pitch may sound like it is written for a specific audience, but let me reiterate: I know nothing about baseball, and I loved it.”
♦ Brew Crew Ball, a Brewers-centric site, posted this about It’s Just a Game, by Brian Carriveau. Haven’t read this one yet, but I can relate a lot since it revolves around an adult league, so I don’t think the reviewer should limit its interest to just Wisconsians (Wisconsoners?).
