Back again…

November 5, 2011

Just returned from vacation in the Berkshires, Hancock, specifically. A very nice place just across from Jiminy Peak. Managed to get a lot of reading done, including two books that will be the subject of reviews.

I wanted to give a shout out to Tom and Elizabeth of Elizabeth’s Restaurant in nearby Pittsfield. I bring this up because a) it’s a great place, even if it is a bit of the beaten path and b) Tom is, despite living in he heart of Red Sox Nation, a staunch Yankee fan.

The food is great, the ambiance quirky (it’s located off the main drag, next to an auto repair outfit), and the owner and staff really cool. We got there a bit early because we’re not cool driving on small unfamiliar country roads at night. Actually we got there before they were even serving dinner, which gave us the opportunity for some good conversation with owner and chef Tom Ellis, who filled us in on his cooking philosophy, very organic and local.

So if you’re ever in the vicinity, it’s worth the trip. They do not take plastic, but they do have an IOU policy. I was amazed to hear that in the 25 years they’ve been open, they’ve only been stiffed once.
