Mission accomplished: Phase One

September 19, 2011

The 501 titles for the manuscript have been selected! Now comes the part where I put it all into the format required by the publisher

There are actually a few more 501; I imagine as I tinker and fine tune, I will replace a few. One of the pleasant problems has been rediscovering old favorites and trying to see where they work into the grand scale of baseball literature. Conversely, things that used to be high on my list have since been replaced by newer works (sort of like The Velveteen Rabbit.)

This is bound to be one of those situations where someone will ask, “how could you leave this out” or “why would you include that?” Fair questions. As I will elaborate within the book, these are not necessarily the definitive books on all the sub-genres. Although many are indeed quite literary, especially in the areas of business, economics, and law, I’m writing for a general audience. I take a “tree-falling-in-the-woods” approach: if nobody reads the book because it’s so specialized, does it make an impact?

This also means, with the bulk of the work done, that I will be able to resume regular posting and make the podcasts a more regular feature. Thanks for your patience and I look forward to a wider “circulation” in the months to come.
